A few months ago I asked the chat if y’all would be more interested in try-ons similar to the one I did at Buck Mason and y’all said yes! The first request was Soeur, so I popped into a few stores to try on a variety of items and bring you sizing notes. It’s also a brand you see Parisians wearing around town (that newsletter is also in the works!).

My husband and I took a 30 minute metro ride to go to the largest Soeur I could find in Paris only to go to the wrong one! The error was a blessing in disguise because there was a kebab place down the street we had been meaning to try and we got to enjoy a lovely 20 minute bike ride on a sunny day in Paris to the correct store. It also worked out because both stores ended up having a few different items in stock!
What I Own
After landing in Paris, I spent weeks searching for a winter coat. Soeur was one of the only brands that had several options I liked. After trying on a few sizes and going to multiple stores, I ended up deciding on this navy coat that I wore all winter long.
Try On
In no particular order, below is a compilation of what I tried on and a few items that left me in a chokehold. You’ll find 17 different pieces — including tops, shorts, pants, jeans, button downs and a few sets!
Eclipse Jacket
This was one of the items I was looking forward to trying on as a spring transitional piece. I particularly like it because it's 100% cotton and would be a great breathable piece for spring. I ended up trying it one size down and it was fairly roomy! I actually preferred it without the belt, but you have the option to style it both ways.
Fit notes — I would go down one size. If you want an oversized, looser fit or want to do a bit of layering, I would go true to size.
Dandy Jacket
I absolutely adored this jacket as soon as I put it on. I love the asymmetrical button closure and you could easily wear it with or without the belt. You can also tie the belt in the front or the back. I actually loved it with the jeans I was wearing and it’s a piece that could easily be elevated or dressed down for a more casual look. I ended up trying my true size at a different store and preferred the size down look. It was still roomy without feeling like too much fabric.
Fit notes — I found this ran big. I would go down one size for a more tailored look.
Bristol Pant
These are the matching pants to the jacket. I’m 5’6” so these were very long in comparison to the model who is 5’10”. I would need to tailor them 2 to 4 inches depending on how I’d like to wear them. They were comfortable and very flowy. If you’re into matching sets, this one's for you!
Fit notes — I found these ran true to size.
Dawson Shorts
If you’re into a matching set but prefer shorts over pants, this one matches Dandy. If I was picking between the pants and shorts, I would go with the shorts. I love the look of the jacket and shorts — the shorts wouldn’t require any tailoring for me. I tried on one size down (pictured below) and they fit a bit snug. I would go with my true size — just like the Bristol pant.
PS — the Dandy in this image is one size up because they didn’t have my size at this store.
Fit notes — I found these ran true to size.
Donovan Cropped Trench
I’ve been wearing my trench coat nonstop and have been considering getting a cropped trench option to switch things up. When I saw this in store, I had to try it. It’s a charcoal grey color that I can see myself easily pairing with any color. It laid beautifully when it was buttoned up and open. I loved that it was 100% cotton (including the lining!).
Fit notes — I would go down one size. It still felt roomy even when I tried it on with a thick sweater.
Elliot Jeans
I adored the fit of these jeans. They reminded me of workwear/carpenter pants without going too deep in that direction. They are meant to fit around the ankle but fit full length on me. They remind me of a mix of wide leg and slight barrel leg. They were super comfy and they passed the squat test! They also come in this beautiful, olive green color (the website says beige, but I think they’re more olive!).
Fit notes — I would go true to size. On the model, they fit much looser. If you prefer the model fit, I would go up one size.
Dream Jacket
I loved the color of this jacket and it’d be a great piece to elevate denim or even trousers. In the back, there are darts to accentuate the waist and give it a fitted effect. Due to the construction, I found the waist and hip area were tighter than I had anticipated. I tried on one size down (thinking it might run big) and I felt it was a bit too snug. I did love the balloon-like sleeve on this one.
Fit notes — I would go true to size or up one size depending on how tight you want it around your waist.
Dilly Jacket
If I'm not mistaken, this jacket is the same fit as the Dream Jacket, just different material. Similar to the Dream, I found this fit snug in the waist and hip area. I actually really loved this with the matching pants. If you don’t like blazers, a collarless asymmetrical jacket is a fun way to go. I love twists on classic styles.
Fit notes — I would go true to size or up one size depending on how tight you want it around your waist.
Wally Pant
The matching pants to Dilly! I was pleasantly surprised by these pants. Similar to the Bristol, these ran long as well. I would have to get them cropped about 2 to 4 inches based on desired fit. That being said, I loved them cuffed and this material lends itself well to that styling choice.
There are buttons on the side that allow you to tighten the waist if you’d like. I have larger hips in comparison to my waist, so there was some space in the waist but nothing to turn me away from them. The color online says ecru, but I found them to be more of a light buttery yellow in person. I loved that these were a mix of linen and cotton.
The sales associate said they ran big and brought me a size down to try. I tried them on and I felt they were a bit snug on me and it made the pockets bulge a bit. I did find that the size down was a bit shorter than my true size.
Fit notes — If you have wider hips, I would go to true size. Otherwise, I might recommend sizing down one size.
Eli Top
I love a good denim piece, especially when it’s a dark blue option. I appreciated the minimal contrast stitching on this as well. As for fit, I found this to be snug for its sizing. I tried one size down thinking it’d be a bit more oversized but this ended up being more fitted.
Fit notes — I would go with your true to size or go up one size for a looser fit.
Emile Short
A potential denim set?! When I saw shorts as an option I was excited to try them on. The shorts fit comfortably and were a great length if you prefer a longer inseam. I actually preferred the shorts on their own vs with the matching top.
Fit notes — I would go true to size. When I did the fingertip length test, they were longer than my fingertips!
Blair Pant
I also had to try on the jeans with the top *for science*. These jeans remind me more of a trouser. The jeans fit perfectly and the denim blue was stunning. The silhouette did a great job at giving you an elongated leg. I do want to point out that the pockets bulged out a tiny bit on me. This did not bother me and if you don’t have wider hips, I don’t think this is an issue you’d encounter. I really liked the jeans and the matching top together! As for length, these were only about 1 to 2 inches long on me. The denim lends itself well to being folded or you could get them altered. I would probably leave as is and fold them with flats and uncuff with heels.
If you love the color but would prefer a dress — you’re in luck!
Fit notes — I would go true to size.
Pampa
This was another surprise piece for me. It can be mixed and matched into sets as well! It’s a thick denim that has slits on both sides. The denim is heavy weight so the slits stay in place while being airy for those hot summer months. This is how I wanted the Eli top to fit. Truly stunning. The sales associate said I looked “très lumineux!” It also comes in this bright yellow that almost looks like a lime green.
I also tried it in a size down in this rust clay color and while it fit, I felt it was a bit tight around the armpits. In the white, I am wearing my true size. In the rust, I am wearing one size down.
Fit notes — I would go true to size. If you prefer a more boxy fit (like the model), I would go up one size.
Harry Pants
I decided to try the matching pants and I absolutely adored the look of it! I loved the rusty clay color of the pants (and top!). I tried on two sizes — I found my true size was snug in the hips and butt area. I sized up one size and found it was much more comfortable in the waist, and hips area. They were a tinge big around the waist which means they sat lower in comparison to the size down.
Fit notes — If you don’t have wide hips, I would go true to size. Otherwise, I would suggest sizing up.
Ella Dress
If you saw this note, you can probably guess I’ve had silk items (and snake print heels!) on my mind for a while now. After seeing this dress a few times in their stores, I decided to give it a try. It was soft to the touch and was beautifully cut. I tried my true size and I found it ran incredibly small and fit snug in the hips. You could unbutton the front button if you’d like as well! No full length photo because I felt like a stuffed sausage in my typical size.
Fit notes — I found this style ran small — I would go up one size. If you have wider hips, I’d go up two sizes.
Arielle Dress
This was another dress I had seen in a few of their stores that I wanted to try. I was pleasantly surprised by the fit. It was super lightweight and would be great as a flowy summer dress. I also loved the button details on the side. You can open them up or leave them closed!
Fit notes — I would go down one size. If you are bustier, I would go true to size.
Carlotta Button Down
I went in hoping to try on the Alphee, but they unfortunately didn’t have it in stock at the store. I saw this light grey almost lilac-y button down and decided to give it a try. It drapes beautifully, closed and opened. It fits oversized and it's long in the back and front. I could see this working really well if you’re tall! Even though it was on the longer side, I still really liked the look. I probably wouldn’t recommend this if you’re shorter than 5’6”. However, if you’re shorter, they have this shirt dress that could work perfectly on you!
Fit notes — I would go down one size for a less voluminous fit.
Cadet Jacket
This is from their workwear line and the thick material made it feel more like a jacket vs a button down. It fits very similarly to the Carlotta button down in terms of sizing and length.
Fit notes — I would go down one size. Depending on how you’d like to wear it, you might go true to size to layer more underneath.
A few items that caught my eye but I didn’t get to try on were the Calvin, Clovis, and Daley.
Additional Sizing Notes
Based on everything I tried on, I would venture to say that anything listed as a “loose” fit you could go down one size (unless you love very oversized!). If something says it’s listed as “fitted” I would go with your true size or possibly go up one size.
Final note to keep in mind, the models are most often styled in a size 38.

I hope you enjoyed this try on and it makes shopping at Soeur a little easier! What Parisian brand should I try next?

You're Sleeping on Buck Mason
My friend and I have been hyper fixated on Buck Mason for the past few months — so much so that I’m pretty sure the sales associates are sick of seeing us there. I am constantly perusing their shop and my friend is a down right addict. To fully paint the picture, they know us by name.
Brand Highlight: Fane
Launched in 2020, Fane was born from a desire to create elegant, sophisticated, yet discreet bags. Based in Paris, they were founded by Laurie-Anne Braun and Margot Baudequin who had no prior experience in product development, production or leather sourcing. They learned everything as they went (your sign to just start the very project you might have be…
Ooh, I LOVE the Dandy jacket with the shorts, it looks so good. I also find the sizing a little bigger than other brands so I second your advice!
The cropped trench is a total dream. Thanks for bringing us along!! Xx
