What a magical three and a half weeks Paris was. I feel so incredibly grateful that my husband and I could take an extended vacation to see family, gallivant across Paris with friends and just spend some quality time together.
I often see people talk about what they packed for their vacations, but I rarely see people talk about what they missed. We were gone for almost 4 weeks, so toward the tail end I was wishing I had access to a few more items from my closet. Alas, I left room in my suitcase in case I acquired a few items. I thought I’d share what I missed and ultimately wished I had packed, why I left it and some style notes.

PS. a Paris recommendation list is coming but they are a labor of love and take a long time to curate. I appreciate your patience! If you are traveling soon or want to get ahead of planning, please reach out and I’ll happily recommend some favorites.
Long Skirts
One thing I’ve been into as of late are long skirts and I don’t think I’m the only one. I recently read (or saw on TikTok — I cannot find the source) that the hemline length mimics the economy and we are currently in a downturn — hence longer skirt lengths. While I know the hemline index is something that’s been explored since the 1920s, I am not sure how accurate that is today.
I left my skirts behind thinking it’d be too cold for me to wear them. It was in the low 90s when we escaped Austin and a 30 degree drop sounded drastic to me. Turns out, I could have easily packed them and been fine with the temperature — especially if I wore sheer tights underneath. Both of my long skirts are more pencil-like in style, so I don’t think they would have worked while roaming around the city with how many steps I got in, but they could have definitely accompanied me on a date night dinner adventure with my husband. Below are a few ways I would have styled them if I had brought them along.
Another skirt I desperately tried to find to no-avail was my mini corduroy skirt. I’ve had it for well over 8 years. It’s olive green and I’ve kept it because I love the color so much. In the past few years I’ve worn it with black sheer tights. Due to the lack of restriction, I could easily see myself schlepping around town with it accompanied by my red pea coat (even though I’d be looking a bit like Christmas decor with the red and green combo).

Flats
I left two pairs of flats at home that are an integral part of my dressing routine — especially in the Fall. I particularly missed my pointy suede flats. My husband reminded me that it was raining in Paris and I would not be wearing them out. I also assumed the weather was too cold for flats. While that may have been true,
’s article where she was wearing sheer sock tights might be the answer to wearing my beloved flats during the winter months. They will not keep my toes warm, but for a date night rendezvous I think they’d work just great.I also craved my patent square toe flats. These flats are insanely comfortable and I’m not the only one to say so —
from wrote about them in her conference essentials. They are perfect for long days when you’re hitting 10k steps thanks to their added cushion. I have been eyeing these M.GEMI flats that I’m sure are equally divine.Style Notes

Sweaters
I indulged in the sweater weather while in Paris. If you missed it, here is a combination of outfits I wore in Paris. The one downside of sweaters is the amount of space they tend to take up in your suitcase. As I was packing a little too much, my husband reminded me to leave some room in case I wanted to buy some goodies. My sweaters were among the first to go due to how much space they took up.
I wish I would have prioritized them over a few other items so I could have had some more variance in my outfits, especially with cardigans. I found myself layering the most with this vs my pullovers, mainly because it’s thinner which made it easier to style alongside other pieces. I think that’s the key to sweater styling — having pieces that don’t have too much bulk to put over your shoulders.

Jackets
The first two weeks I did not need my wool coat. I found myself overheating as we roamed around town. I opted for layers and on the chillier days, I would add my denim jacket as an added outer shell — especially in the evenings. I found myself wishing I had packed my white denim jacket for some color variance.

Parisians Are Wearing Stripes
I love people watching and a city like Paris is candy for your eyes. As I observed people wandering, I began to notice striped pants, striped jackets, striped blazers, striped coats — stripes everywhere. I own two pairs of striped trousers I’ve talked about before (
What I Wore In Paris This Week
In case you missed it, my husband and I are in Paris for the next few weeks visiting family, vacationing with friends and overall just relaxing from the wild year we’ve had. We’ve never taken a vacation this long and stayed in one place to truly enjoy our days without any set plans. We’ve been waking up and deciding at the last minute what we want to do…
Your mini corduroy skirt sounds dreamy! I love hearing about how people pack for trips.
I recently wrote about the packing mistakes I made for a trip to Japan… I thought it would be way colder than it was. What ended up saving me were the basics I bring on every trip (tank top, Frank & Eileen relaxed button up, lightweight trousers, silk dress). I basically wore two outfits the entire trip 😅
my "trick" to not getting bored is 3 parts: big silk scarves (i may have a problem/obsession with a certain luxury brand started by my mother in law rest in peace), earrings, and lipsticks. changes everything about an outfit and takes up literally no space in your bag a weighs nothing ;)
