Even though summer had just officially started, I was excited for 75 degree weather. In Austin, we had started experiencing summer weather a few months prior so escaping 90+ degree weather in June had me excited to pack.
Before going to Mexico City, I kept thinking to myself how I wished I had a large crossbody bag for my cameras + essentials. Something like this — if you have this bag, I need to know, is it worth the price?! I don’t currently own an option that works for all the things I like to carry (think 2 film cameras and a digital camera — ya know, essentials!). Instead of just buying something I was only half excited about (and currently able and willing to spend money on), I decided to just pack my trusty crossbody bag and go with the flow. So all my outfits feature my city approved purse that I cannot recommend enough.
Day One — An Airport Outfit
We woke up at 5am for our 8am flight and landed in Mexico City around 10:30 AM. Since we knew it’d be too early for check in, and I wouldn’t be able to change upon arrival. I wore an outfit that’d keep me warm enough on the plane but also make me feel put together for our first day roaming around. I am someone who can fly in jeans, typically I wear these or these. This time I opted for a Canadian tuxedo look, so I went with jeans that closely matched my denim jacket. To not feel constrained, I wore my double lined tank top that allowed me to go sans bra. I also wore my new balance shoes on the flight and changed into my sambas after check in.
For dinner, I added my gray cardigan around my neck as a scarf. It was breezy and drizzling, so it was the perfect amount of warmth to keep me cozy on our walk home.
Day Two — Monochromatic with a Touch of Black
One thing I was excited about was the possibility of wearing knitwear. Mexico City is cool at night and in the mornings, so having layers was necessary. As a certified knitwear lover, I was in heaven. Side note — my husband likes to make fun of me because I have an obsession with knitwear but live in a city that’s hot a majority of the year.
Day two was particularly breezier than the others. I decided on a full tonal look and wore my new beige cardigan over my favorite white t-shirt and paired it with my favorite ecru denim. Side note — I was eyeing this cardigan last fall but it sold out super fast. When it came back online in June, I bought it immediately. It felt silly buying knit in June but I’m so excited to have it now. The denim is sadly sold out, but you can find a similar-ish piece here (that I also own and love!). I had planned to wear my tan loafers, but since it had been raining during the morning, I put those away and opted for my new balance shoes.
When we came back to the hotel before dinner, I changed into my tan flats and took off the crossbody strap from my purse to make it handheld. It started to rain as we were leaving, so I had to go back and change into black flats — the one downfall of suede! I also threw on my denim jacket as an added layer since the downpour of rain made the evening chilly.
Day Three — CDMX Label
I couldn’t wait to wear the new outfit I bought while I told myself I was “just looking” at ZII Ropa. I can’t recall how I found this brand, but it was a must visit for me.
I had a few items that I wanted to try while in the store, but my top two were the Cea top and Renee pants. I originally had my eye on the olive green pants (I’m a huge sucker for anything olive green), but it was sold out in my size. They had a sage color in my size that I decided to give a try. I tried on the tank and pants together and I knew it was a done deal. After trying on the sage color, I was glad the olive green wasn’t available in my size. Otherwise, I would have probably been a creature of habit and not tried on this beautiful sage color. I paired my outfit with my trusty tan loafers and threw my gray cardigan around my shoulders in case I needed an extra layer. This day was the warmest, so I could have left the cardigan at home, but I appreciated having it available in case it got chilly.
For dinner, I kept everything the same except I added my denim jacket as an added layer. It was drizzling when we left for dinner, so having the sweater around my shoulders but under my denim jacket was the perfect amount of layers and warmth for the pouring rain that would welcome us on our way home.
Last Day — Comfy Casual
We had an afternoon flight, so I prepped my layers that morning. Layering was also necessary so I could take off everything extra once we landed in Austin, where we’d be welcomed back with 90+ degree weather. Another flight called for another tank. I wore my favorite tank as of late. I added my olive green jacket and my gray cardigan over my shoulders. I ended up wearing the same jeans I wore on the flight over and opted for my trusty new balances.
