Summer is just around the corner so that means it’s time for another outfit season look back. If you missed the first installment of this series, you can find the winter edition here.
What I consider to be a true Spring lasted maybe a month in Austin, TX. The rest of it had a wide range of weather — every day I would open the door and stick out my hand to calibrate what to wear. While this Spring felt cooler than previous ones, it was still warm in comparison to what people from areas with 4 seasons would expect for Spring dressing. I didn’t have a lot of opportunities for layering, but I did get to enjoy some.
Ecru Denim
The denim didn’t stop, it just rotated to another color. I’ve put away my black denim and have been reaching for my off white denim non-stop this Spring. I have 3 styles of ecru denim: wide leg, straight leg and ankle jeans (different color here and similar-ish here). I would like to think I rotated between each pair fairly equally, but I think I reached for my straight leg and ankle jeans the most, mainly because of the shoes I tend to gravitate towards. I find myself reaching for rounded toe, low profile options — like my loafers or flats. Personally, I like how they look together. When I wear my wide leg jeans I find myself wanting to wear pointy flats, sandals or heels. I’ll probably continue wearing these well into summer and even fall.

Linen Trousers
With the heat, linen has fully entered the scene and is here to stay. I wear both of these weekly and only wish I had another pair to rotate between — possibly a cropped version to provide a variety in the look, like this one. One is 100% linen while the other is a linen-cotton blend. Now that I have one of each I find myself gravitating a tinge more towards the blend due to the lack of needing to iron them as often as the 100% linen pair. I also love that they’re more structured. If I was buying a 100% linen pair again, I’d buy a relaxed option where wrinkles were more expected and welcome.

Tank Tops
My tank tops have been working overtime this spring. I’ve been switching between this ribbed option, double lined option and a thick strap black one. I’ve been layering them under button downs, jackets and my blazer for an office look. They’re a life saver due to the heat, but also from the AC. I don’t love the feeling of AC hitting my body (I know it’s weird, but I get cold easily!), so having something to layer is magical. Also, the weather has been all over the place, so when it’s pouring rain one hour and sunny the next it gives me some reprieve.

Jackets
I only got to experience crisp mornings for about a month before considering a jacket seemed a little ridiculous. There is nothing like a brisk morning where you wrap one side of your jacket over the other while crossing your arms for added warmth. While I layered my denim jacket for when I was mostly outside — I did wear a blazer inside over a tank too. On the days it was rainy or chilly, it made the AC tolerable at the office while looking and feeling a little more chic. I don’t know what it is about a blazer, but it makes me feel more of a I-know-what-I’m-doing type of way.

Button Downs
I’m a button down gal, so no surprise these are still here. I reach for a button down a minimum of twice a week. I have several button downs and I can see myself with more. Some are fitted, some are more oversized. As mentioned in my May favorites, my latest obsession has been layering over tanks. Apart from adding a protective layer against blasting AC, they’re great for reducing direct sun exposure.

Vests
One of my spring wishlist items was elevated tops and I leaned into vests as tops this season. I love the look of vests with jeans, linen pants and shorts. I think they’re the perfect in between look between casual and elevated depending on what you pair them with. I’ve gotten many compliments on them and I like that the two vests I added to my closet are different shapes. One is a v-neck and the other is cropped with a rounded neck. I still want to give something like this shape a try, because it’s what originally had me on the hunt for one.

Loafers & Square Toe Flats
Another repeated category — my loafers. I reached for my tan loafers quite a bit and I think that’s because they work really well with my ecru denim. Unfortunately, for my wallet, I think they’ve reached the end of their lifetime. I will be taking them to a cobbler to give me a final diagnosis, but I may be upgrading these sooner than expected. Part of letting go is also letting go of all the memories I walked through in those shoes. Considering they’re over 12+ years old, they’ve been with me through quite a big chunk of my past.
I also found myself reaching for my patent square toe shoes. They’re insanely comfy and I know they’d do well in the city on 10k step days. I like that they’re patent — they give a black flat an added flare. It also has me considering a more square toed looks like this one but in a color like this. I’d love a lighter, more summery color to pair with the lighter tones I wear in the summer months.

I’d love to hear what you’ve been wearing this past season and what you look forward to wearing during the summer!

My wardrobe heroes of late are any bottom that isn’t denim (or blue denim); I’ve been drawn to my trousers, colored denim and skirts. So I’m leaning in to that esp on mornings when I don’t know what to wear.
The sezane vest looks lovely on you! Also, I didn't realize you were also based in Austin! I feel like the rest of the world doesn't realize how short our spring really is hahaha
